Compensation range: $18.85 -$23.10 per hour

 

The base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and the pay of employees in similar positions. Actual total compensation will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.

Position Summary

Location: Woodland, CA 

Hours: Day shift, Monday - Friday 5:00 am to 5:00 pm (Occasional Weekend & Nights OT Work)

 

The Driver/Installer I delivers, unloads, and installs (assembles) systems furniture (modular) and freestanding furniture. Verifies, loads, transports, and delivers furniture products as assigned by a Dispatcher. Ensures accurate and timely delivery and installation of products in compliance with manufacturer’s specifications and to the customer’s satisfaction. Interprets furniture installation drawings and blueprints.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Delivers furniture and related office products to clients and picks up furniture products being returned
  • Loads installation trucks if not preloaded. Inspect each piece of furniture for damage and ensure that the piece matches what has been scheduled for delivery or pickup.
  • Assist in the loading, unloading, and occasional transportation of furniture
  • Install (assemble) furniture – both modular and freestanding, in compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Take directions from Lead Installer and Supervisor for loading, transport, unloading, staging, stripping, assembling, and movement of furniture.
  • Inspect all furniture authorized for pick-up, document any product being returned that is not covered by delivery tickets, and deliver returned product to the appropriate area in the furniture warehouse with proper documentation.
  • Inspects delivery vehicle on a daily pre-trip and post-trip basis and completes the Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Report.
  • Operates the delivery vehicle in full compliance with Federal, State and local traffic laws.
  • Promptly reports any accidents involving injury, death or property damage in accordance with company policies.
  • Reports all discrepancies or exceptions for delivery or pick-up instructions, initially by phone and then by clear, accurate documentation on delivery tickets or other delivery/pick instructions
  • Performs a variety of other non-delivery duties, as assigned, which may include unloading trucks, storing furniture in the warehouse, inventory of product, and assembly or repair of furniture
  • Correctly and safely uses tools, equipment, and cleaning supplies. Driver will be responsible for maintaining assigned equipment and tools and protecting them from damage or loss.
  • Fully comply with the company’s safety instructions and procedures, including timely reporting of any accidents, injuries, or incidents involving physical injury or illness. Will operate only equipment for which the person has been trained and authorized to operate

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); 5 years driving experience or 2 years driving experience + 1 year box truck experience. Must be eligible and meet Company insurance requirements. One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. General knowledge of Steelcase product lines & installation.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must be able to qualify as a Professional Driver. All Drivers must have a current, valid California Driver’s License of the Class proper to the job (Class C). Ability to read maps, diagrams and blueprints of delivery locations; write clearly regarding products and delivery situations; be able to complete Vehicle Accident

 

Reports

  • Class C Drivers (non-CDL’s) must hold a current, valid Class C California Driver’s License; some of our clients require a CA Real ID. All Drivers must be able to operate vehicles in compliance with all DMV rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and document all information required on furniture delivery or pick-up orders, lead and be able to oversee the work of one to two Helper-level employees, and clearly communicate on delivery problems and issues, both orally and in writing
  • All Drivers must be able to successfully complete the Driver Qualification Process, including background checks, driving history evaluations, and satisfy the training requirements necessary for Certification as a Professional Driver.
  • Renewal of certification to be conducted annually
  • Mechanical ability with knowledge of hand/power tools listed under Required Tools
  • Requires working independently and as a member of a team. Able to exercise independent judgment without supervisory assistance
  • Basic math skills required
  • Mechanical ability with knowledge of hand/power tools listed under Required Tools
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Must have reliable transportation to work at job sites throughout the Sacramento and North Bay Area.
  • Knowledge & experience of wall-mount applications (whiteboards, overheads, wall starts)
  • Ability to read and interpret furniture installation drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision

Required Tools

  • 18V Cordless drill, charger & 2 batteries, apex/magnetic bit holder, bits (P2, P3, R2, R3) & nut drivers, drill bits for wood & metal, socket adapters, rachet set, wonder bar, torpedo level, dead blow (non-marking), (3) standard & (3) Philip screw drivers, pliers, channel locks, needle nose, tape measure, open wrench set, 3 light electrical tester, utility knife, allen wrench set (standard & metric), vise grips & tool bag.

 

Physical Requirements

 

Seeing, color and depth perception, hearing/listening, clear speech, touching, ability to move distances within and between warehouses/offices, ability to mount and dismount forklift/truck, pushing/pulling, driving, lifting to 100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb up into and down from delivery trucks and walk up and down ramps where required.

*All Drivers are subject to Random and Post-Accident Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing.

 

Work Environment

 

Works around dust and dirt, may be required to work different shifts and work hours; may work alone or with a team; in moderate heat or cold, around electrical equipment, fumes/odors and/or dirt/dust. Generally, loud noises work around such as, trucks, forklifts, and power hand tools.
