    Construction Project Engineer - Construction Solutions Division

    San Francisco Bay Area

     

    Position Summary/Overview:

    Provides project management support and resources to assigned Construction Solutions Division (CSD) projects for the entire duration of a project or during the construction execution. The Construction Project Engineer will work closely with CSD business development, preconstruction project managers, construction designers and construction project managers to provide construction services for our prefab interior construction solutions.

     

    Responsibilities include:

    • Assist Precon Project Managers with the budgeting/estimating process including quantity take-offs, subcontractor and supplier solicitations and estimating and proposal writing responsibilities
    • Project setup including job files with Project Managers, Contract Administration and accounting department
    • Preparation and management of project submittals including tracking and monitoring throughout the bidding, pre-construction, construction and closeout phases of assigned projects
    • Preparation of job budgets and budget changes
    • Cost and quantity tracking for assigned projects
    • Help ensure project compliance with legal requirements, owner specifications and government regulations
    • Prepare subcontracts for review on assigned projects
    • Preparation of project pay applications/invoices and processing of Subcontract billings with Project Managers, Contact Administration and accounting
    • Works with other team members to provide exceptional customer service
    • Assist Project team members with other necessary project related duties
    • Travel as needed for visiting job sites and other assignments

     

    Qualifications:

     

    Education/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college in an Engineering discipline, Construction Management or Construction Engineering Technology
    • 2- 4 years’ related experience in the construction industry, preferably with interior construction projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Requires excellent customer service skills
    • Must have prior hands on experience with subcontractors, submittals and document tracking
    • Proficient with Microsoft office software as well as Procore and AutoCAD/Revit, with the ability to learn other programs
    • Experience with prefabricated construction methods preferred
    • Understanding of technical requirements for a business relocation, construction projects
    • Able to read and understand construction drawings
    • Understanding of a design assist approach and how to work with precon teams throughout the process
    • Knowledge of title 24 to assist the design and precon team throughout the process
    • Experience working with unit costing and square foot costs
    • Must be extremely organized, with good time management skills and the ability to work independently with minimal guidance
    • Must be able to analyze and problem solve, even with significant ambiguity

     

    Construction Skills

    • Understands means and methods of construction associated with the renovation of commercial and institutional buildings typical throughout California
    • Has a working knowledge of architectural, mechanical and electrical work
    • Understands the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules
    • Ability to understand the function and purpose of the final solution. Uses the knowledge to challenge the appropriateness of the work in progress
    • Understands contemporary software applications associated with managing and controlling workflow (ex. Procore & Microsoft Project)

     

    Physical Requirements

    • Seeing, color perception, hearing/listening, clear speech, hand and finger dexterity
    • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
    • Complex reading and writing skills, basic math skills, judgement/decision making, analysis/comprehension 
    • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds
    • Must comply with various required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including fall protection equipment

     

    Working Environment

    • Regularly works with others face to face, over the phone and through email
    • Generally, works in an office environment with moderate noise
    • Job site visits and assistance with field verification is often required
    • Nature of work may require working off hours and /or weekends, and time spent out of the office
