Overview/Position Summary

Responsible for leading, inspiring and managing a passionate team of creative professionals. Primary roles are to ensure the effective operation of the Workplace Studio Design Division, enable growth and development of the team, and instigate a culture of creative confidence. Will participate in the identification and implementation of the Design Division’s strategic goals and policies, and holds team members accountable for performance. 



  • Manage division financials to ensure profitability and achievement of financial goals
  • Serves as mentor to team members and provides opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Manages the workload of team members and assigns projects based on skill set, client relationships and availability
  • Determines staffing needs for the division and engages in the hiring process to include interviewing and making hiring decisions
  • Responsible for individual and team performance, to include training, coaching, performance management and conflict resolution
  • Develops and manages standards, processes and quality assurance
  • Works with Sales to produce accurate quotes, proposals and contracts
  • Manage selections of furnishings and materials to meet the client’s needs, budget, and timeline

  • Cultivate partnership relationships among clients, onsite vendors, manufacturer reps and with pertinent internal One Workplace teams





  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior or Architectural Design
  • 5 plus years' related design experience
  • Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) preferred
  • NICIDQ, CID, LEED, WELL AP and/or EDAC certification desired
  • Prior experience with system furniture products a plus



  • Advanced proficiency in a variety of software, including AutoCAD, CET Designer, 20/20 CAP, and SketchUP
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Knowledge of Steelcase products desired
  • Prior experience leading and managing teams
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and make impactful decisions
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills with ability to provide solutions for an assortment of client needs

  • Must be committed to the mentorship and development of others
  • Must work well in a deadline driven industry, have strong project management skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Possess a positive attitude with ability to inspire others
  • Ability to be a creative problem solver for clients as well as team members

  • Reliable transportation to travel to client sites


Physical Requirements

  • Seeing, color perception, hearing/listening, clear speech, hand and finger dexterity, and ability to move distances within and between warehouses/offices, ability to get to project sites
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Complex reading and writing skills, basic math skills, judgement/decision making, analysis/comprehension

Working Environment

  • Regularly works with others face to face, over the phone and through email
  • Generally, works in an office environment with moderate noise
  • Nature of work may require time spent out of the office
  • Periodically works outside and may work around moving objects, dust and dirt
