Construction Designer- Construction Solutions Division

Santa Clara, CA

 

 

Overview/Position Summary

Works on Construction Solution Division (CSD) projects from design concept to installation. Works directly with sales, clients, project managers, architects, vendors and structural engineers to ensure projects are completed to the customer’s satisfaction.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create wall layouts for commercial and institutional facilities using DIRTT (ICE) and Steelcase (CET) proprietary design software. Activities range from initial needs development to final installation documents
  • Create specifications and shop drawings from factory built modular walls, modular electrical, raised floor, and mill work
  • Create construction details per local structural engineer directions
  • Create visual renderings and 3D fly-throughs of proposed spaces
  • Input hours worked to department database, monitor estimated hours and prepare addendum if necessary
  • Audit projects – review all production drawings and information for accuracy
  • Organize and submit orders in conjunction with CSD Project Manager
  • Perform all work in adherence to established departmental procedures, graphic standards and templates
  • Gains a thorough understanding of the scope of work and details of assigned projects
  • Serve as mentor to other designers as determined by level of experience

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; Associate Arts degree (or equivalent) from 2 year college or tech school will be considered; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • CAD, ICE and CET experience preferred
  • LEED and Well Building certification desired as well as prior experience in the construction industry

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of commercial construction and scheduling
  • Experience with modular products (walls, floors, power/data, etc.) a plus
  • Proficiency in ACAD 2014 and CA Title 24
  • Ability to read/interpret construction docs, bids and specifications
  • Knowledge of DIRTT and Steelcase architectural products a plus
  • Fluent PC skills, including the Microsoft office suite
  • Practiced and positive interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to foster and leverage relationships; comfortable interfacing with clients, architects, general contractors, vendors and internal staff
  • Able to multi task efficiently in fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency
  • Must be extremely organized, with good time management skills and the ability to work independently
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional Customer Service skills with a passion to provide solutions to client needs
  • Excellent communication skills via email, face-to-face, and over the phone
  • Must be results oriented with focus on accomplishments and long and short term goals
  • Commitment to Design Team plans, goals and support
  • Maintain continuing education as required

 

Physical Requirements

  • Seeing, color perception, hearing/listening, clear speech, hand and finger dexterity
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Complex reading and writing skills, basic math skills, judgement/decision making, analysis/comprehension 

Working Environment

  • Regularly works with others face to face, over the phone and through email
  • Generally works in an office environment with moderate noise
  • Nature of work may require time spent out of the office
